We’re sad to announce that Doreen Bevan, Honorary Fellow of Association for Project Management (APM) and one of the organisation’s longest-serving employees, has passed away.

Tributes have been paid to Doreen, who was APM’s former Head of Secretariat, from former colleagues including past APM Presidents and Chairs.

Doreen joined APM in 1975 and played an integral role in the association’s early days. She became well known and greatly respected for going beyond the call of duty across many aspects of her work. For 25 years, she influenced the organisation’s culture and helped lay the foundations of APM’s future growth.

Her invaluable contribution and dedication to the association was recognised in 1992 when she was awarded an Honorary Fellowship of APM. She retired from APM in 2000.

Bob Laslett, a founding member of APM, said: “I knew Doreen from when she first became involved with APM.

“She was fun to be with, she was hard working and very professional and above all she was dedicated to APM.”

Miles Shepherd, former Chair of APM, commented: “Those of a certain vintage will recall Doreen with affection…versatile, charming and efficient; without her APM would not have grown and developed into the model of a professional body that we all benefit from today.”

Tom Taylor, past President, Vice President and Chair of APM, said: “Doreen was a very nice person who was very good at so many jobs in the early days of APM. Her versatility was essential to cover the demands and expectations of a nascent professional organisation – with few resources or funds – and with the needs of a diverse and growing community.

“Doreen was unfailingly and conscientiously firm, fair and friendly over a long period of time and many situations. It takes some doing.

“Later on Doreen was a valued and convivial Honorary Member of APM. She was upbeat and proud. Well deserved.”

Doreen leaves behind her husband of 62 years, Ernie, her two daughters and their partners, and four grandchildren.

I am pleased to have attended the funeral and celebratory send-off of Doreen Beven in Shrewsbury, with a full congregation of family and friends, across generations and locations, in full voice. It all confirmed that Doreen was an outstanding person in everything she did. Husband Earnie and family all conveyed their best wishes and appreciation to APM and to all contacts and colleagues therein. Tom Taylor October 2022.
