Kevin Shelton

 

Kevin leads the Risk & Value Profession in Network Rail’s Infrastructure Projects division.  He is accountable for the effectiveness of the Risk & Value Management framework in Infrastructure Projects, providing professional leadership on P3M Risk in Network Rail and facilitating executive risk reviews.

He joined Network Rail in 2013 as IP’s Strategic Planning Manager and was involved in the development of the major project peer review process.  Previously he was Group Strategy Manager at Lloyd’s Register with responsibility for Enterprise Risk Management.  He has also worked for the insurer Royal & SunAlliance and construction company AMEC.

Kevin is a Member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, holds an MBA and an International Certificate in Risk Management from the IRM

 

Synopsis: Antidotes to Optimism Bias

This presentation will provide insights into how Network Rail uses Quantitative Risk Analysis, amongst other tools and techniques, to counter Optimism Bias.  Explaining the steps required to embed, the sometimes misunderstood 'art' of cost and schedule risk analysis; elevating the outputs to the Board room as part of governance. 

Attendees will learn how Network Rail integrates QRA into Enterprise Level Risk Management in a simple and pragmatic way. This, in turn, creates certainty for customers through the application of risk management expertise, focussed on the development and delivery of capital projects; to carry passengers and freight safely, economically and on-time.
