The role of the sustainability SME in improving project outcomes
Sustainability (encompassing environmental, social and governance aspects) is increasingly forming or influencing parts of a project; driven by a range of factors, including new and changing regulations, customer requirements, and stakeholder expectations. A Project Manager may need to consider the sustainability credentials of their business and the applicability of a Carbon Reduction Plan while bidding, navigate social value requirements or consider the risk of modern slavery in their supply chain.
Many aspects such as anti-corruption measures, inclusive practices and carbon foot printing will have been part of projects for some time, but the sustainability landscape is evolving and so topics such as greenwashing, AI governance, and biodiversity may become important considerations.
A project manager needs sufficient awareness of where sustainability fits into the lifecycle of their project across the whole value chain, to ensure that they can establish the material issues, mitigate any associated risks, and protect and create value in their project. In this session, we will look at why this is important, what to consider and the benefit of engaging subject matter expertise to improve project outcomes. This will be of interest to all roles and levels of project professional.
