APM Sustainability Interest Network presents: Assessing project contributions to the United Nations sustainable development goals
In this interactive session, Suzanne and Ellie will introduce a fresh perspective on integrating the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals into project delivery. They will demonstrate how, by considering all 17 Sustainable Development Goals on every project — even if it feels initially unrelated — project teams can uncover hidden impacts, both positive and negative, across all areas of sustainability.
Through practical examples, the speakers will show how a bit of thoughtful investigation into a project's wider effects can help teams assess, mitigate, and enhance their impact using straightforward, accessible approaches — without the need for complex tools or methodologies.
This session aims to make the Sustainable Development Goals tangible for project professionals and to inspire attendees to become Sustainable Development Goals champions — embedding sustainability meaningfully into both current and future project delivery.
We asked Ellie a few questions about their session:
Why do you think this topic is particularly relevant for project professionals?
It can often be unclear how projects, especially non-construction ones, impact sustainability - but they do! This topic empowers all project professionals to understand their impact so they can act.
What’s one key takeaway attendees’ will gain from your session?
Our aim is to show the audience that the UN Sustainable Development Goals can be used in a straightforward way as a framework to drive ideas and discussion – they don’t need to be experts to use it.
What challenges would you like to help project professionals overcome from your session?
To understand that you don’t need to be a sustainability expert to have a positive impact through your projects. The UN Sustainable Development Goals is a framework we can all use to generate ideas
