FAQ

Where are the instructions or guidance I’ll need to prepare for the assessment?

The best starting place for all candidates is our ChPP handbook this will take you through everything you’ll need to know to start your preparation.

I’ve started my application to become a Chartered Project Professional on the current – non-pilot- assessment. Can I transfer this work across?

Because this is a brand-new assessment this isn’t possible, however the technical knowledge and professional practice you’ve likely been noting in your current assessment will still be of use but assessed in a new way.

What happens if I’m not successful?

If you are unsuccessful, you may either switch and start a new application on our current assessment or wait until our new assessment is launched in 2027. This may have some changes to the assessment you’ve sat depending on the outcome of the pilot.

I don’t think I’m right for this pilot, can I stop?

There is no obligation to complete the pilot, however the fee is non-refundable.

Why aren’t Recognised Assessments being accepted for the pilot?

This is so everyone experiences the full breadth of the assessment and is able to share their feedback on the complete journey. This will ensure what we put into live has been rigorously tested.

How much time should I spend preparing for the ChPP Pilot assessment?

There is no fixed or recommended number of preparation hours for the ChPP Pilot. The amount of time you need will depend on your experience, your familiarity with the Chartered competences, and how recently you have reflected on and evidenced your professional practice.

As a guide, candidates should allow sufficient time to:

  • Review the Chartered competences and assessment criteria in detail
  • Refresh their technical knowledge across all mandatory competences selected
  • Prepare and refine their presentation, ensuring clear evidence against all required competences
  • Practise delivering the presentation within the time limit
  • Reflect on their accountability and the complexity of the projects, programmes or portfolios they intend to evidence

The assessment is designed to evaluate experienced professionals at Chartered level rather than test recall or require extensive revision. Preparation should therefore focus on consolidating existing knowledge and clearly articulating professional practice, rather than learning new material.

Are previous qualifications or assessments recognised?

No. For the pilot, all candidates must complete all parts of the assessment. There is no recognition of prior learning or exemption from any element.

How should I prepare for the presentation and Q&A?

  • Use the official Presentation template
  • Evidence all 13 selected competences
  • Practise delivering within 35 minutes
  • Prepare to discuss your accountability and the complexity of your projects

What can I bring into the exam or presentation?

  • Written exam: one blank sheet of paper and a pen/pencil
  • Presentation: one sheet of notes (must be shown to the facilitator)
  • Photo ID is required for the presentation

What language is the assessment delivered in?

  English.

Can I request reasonable adjustments?

Yes. Adjustments are available for candidates with short- or long-term conditions or disabilities under the Equality Act 2010.

How do I apply for reasonable adjustments?

Email the Chartered Development Team by Friday 6 March 2026, including supporting documentation.

How much does the ChPP Pilot cost?

£693 + VAT.

Is the fee refundable?

No. The fee is non-refundable and non-transferable, even if you withdraw or only complete part of the assessment.

How do I maintain ChPP status?

You must:

  • Complete 35 hours of CPD each year
  • Pay an annual renewal fee

When will the assessment take place?

  • Written exam: Wednesday 22 or Thursday 23 April 2026 (online)
  • Presentation and Q&A: Monday 27 April to Friday 1 May 2026 (virtual, allocated slot)

When I receive my presentation and Q&A slot – what time zone will it be in?

All times noted for the assessment will be GMT or BST from 29 March. (UK time)

Which competences will be assessed?

Candidates select eight mandatory competences and five elective competences.

The written exam will assess four mandatory competences, while the presentation and Q&A will assess all selected competences, including Ethics, Compliance and Professionalism.

Can I use artificial intelligence (AI) to prepare?

AI tools may be used in a limited and transparent way, such as for brainstorming ideas or improving grammar. AI must not be used to generate assessment answers. Any use of AI must be declared in the presentation authenticity statement.
