Welcome to the APM South Wales and West of England Network.

Who we are: 

We are a community of project professionals in the broad geographic region of South Wales and the West of England (SWWE). Our regional network offers resources, training and development opportunities, updates and networking events for professionals throughout the area.  

What we do: 

Our regional network hosts many events and networking sessions. We run the flag-ship annual South West Conference. This is the perfect place to meet, discuss and network with other project professionals in the area. Each month we hold events across the region; our main hub is in Bristol, but we also deliver events in other parts of South Wales and South West England. The Project Management Challenge is also something which we continue to be involved with; it brings significant benefits to participating emerging professionals and charities within our region 

Inclusion and diversity are important for us. We want to attract the next generation of project professionals and grow the representation of young people and women in our community. We feel this is important because new individuals bring different ways of working and different ways of thinking to our region and profession.  

Our diverse and inclusive community is comprised of project professionals working and based in the SWWE area. Our regional network offers a way for you to contribute to the profession locally. Joining us will give you more access to learning materials and guidance on future career paths and development; we also offer support for professionals aiming to reach chartered status. 

There are various events, webinars and networking opportunities held throughout the year, and we are looking to expand our reach by doing more collaborative events with the regional networks that border ours. 

How to get involved: 

We are open to project professionals of any level located in the South Wales and West of England region.

APM Regional Network Volunteer

This volunteering opportunity offers a chance to support and facilitate engagement, knowledge and outreach activities in the network's geographical area. 

Volunteers can be either APM members or non-members.

Recruitment for Regional Network Volunteers for this network takes place twice a year - in February and July - so please look out for announcements when applications open.

Take on the APM Project Management Challenge 2026

The APM Project Management Challenge is an annual competition for emerging project professionals. Working in teams, participants have the opportunity to plan and deliver a real project from concept to completion, developing practical project management skills while making a positive impact.

Hosted by APM regional networks across the UK, the challenge helps participants build experience, confidence and leadership skills, with the opportunity to showcase their achievements at a regional finals event.

The South Wales and West of England Regional Network were very pleased to welcome Peter Taylor, ‘The Lazy Project Manager’ on 7 July 2026 to this event at BAWA.

Peter’s talk was about the likely impact of the use of artificial intelligence for the project profession. His opening point is why Artificial Intelligence will run tomorrow's projects - without you!
His previous lazy project manager books were focussed on working smarter, not harder, improving your efficiency.

Building the Argument: What makes project management in the Construction sector different?

On 25 February, the SWWE Regional Network were very pleased to welcome members from the CIOB to this joint event with Dave Corbin, Head of Client Accounts at Gleeds and Claire Biggs, Senior Project Manager, J4 Projects. Dave is the APM’s Built Environment Interest Network Lead, and Claire is a member of the IN Volunteer Group.
