Association for Project Management (APM) has introduced a new version of its flagship APM Project Management Qualification for the future development of the project profession.

The new Project Management Qualification will launch this year with exams opening in September 2024. The rigor and robustness of the qualification remains the same, targeted at those who have two to three years of experience in a project environment or a project management focused degree.

The launch follows a wide range of consultation, research and insights gathering, including the largest pilot of a new qualification run to date by APM. It will benefit from a new exam format that focuses on the assessment of a candidate’s project management knowledge through four new question types that are designed to be accessible and to minimise barriers particularly for neurodivergent candidates, and those who have English as a second language.

Building on the current edition, the new syllabus will continue to uphold its much-respected breadth and depth of coverage, ensuring that candidates have the knowledge required to work in today’s fast paced and challenging environment. New additions to the syllabus, which is now aligned to the APM Competence Framework, include:

  • Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
  • Sustainability
  • Ethics, Compliance and Professionalism
  • Transition Management

Commenting on the launch, APM Director of Education and Lifelong Learning, Jackie Martin said; “The APM Project Management Qualification is a flagship qualification for the profession. Project professionals want to achieve it and employers want their employees to hold it. This update is an important step forward in how we assess project management knowledge and understanding in a way that is accessible to all candidates by utilising assessment methodologies that cater to the diverse range of project professionals who sit it.”

Candidates who wish to sit the current APM Project Management Qualification have until 30 August to complete their exam but for those who wish to secure a resit opportunity as well, it is encouraged to sit the exam by July 2024. All exams for the current version of the Management Qualification must be completed by 4 October 2024.

The new APM Project Management Qualification was created in collaboration with the profession and leading experts in assessment development. This included APM Corporate Partners, Accredited Providers and candidates.
