John Pelton MBE, programme partner director at Crossrail, discussed the myth that innovation brings risk to infrastructure programmes and projects at the APM Project Management Conference 2015 sponsored by 20|20 Business Insight.

John defined innovation as an idea that is “commercially exploitable, in other words it is ready to be used” and that innovation really is key and beneficial to the project. If innovation adds a whole host of values to a project, John gave a challenge to the sold-out audience : “You have got to ask the question, why wouldn’t you innovate?”

John was joined by Manon Bradley, development director at Major Projects Association for the People Myth stream and she looked at the importance of having diversity within projects.

Manon believes that the way that diversity is addressed in projects isn’t quite right. She advised that what needs to happen, is that we need to “step back and look [at] what matters, what are the key criteria for individuals to be successful at projects?”

A selection of the full presentations recorded from the award-winning conference is available to view until the 1st July on the APM website courtesy of PM Channel.
