How Chartered Project Professional status is boosting careers in India
A webinar by Association for Project Management (APM) showed employers and project professionals in India how Chartered Project Professional status can help them progress careers and deliver projects more effectively.
India is the world’s fastest-growing major economy and project professionals are poised to play a major role in this continued growth. The Education Times of India has reported that more young people in the country are enrolling on courses that teach project management skills to participate in the nation's growth. Indian career advice site Naukri Blog ranked project management as one of the highest paying skills in the country.
Being a Chartered Project Professional (ChPP) provides credibility, validates expertise, and fosters connections with other experts. For practitioners and employers alike, ChPP status boosts reputation and builds trust with clients.
During the online session, Siva Prakash ChPP, Team Leader – PMO Operations at WSP India, shared his experience and advice on the ChPP application process. He offered the following advice to others considering applying to become chartered: “Don’t wait until you feel completely ready. Start by looking at the competence framework on the APM website and asking yourself ‘what have I done to demonstrate this?’”
Saurabh Varier ChPP, Manager – Project Planning and Controls at AtkinsRéalis, added: “It [ChPP] will give you the assurance that you’re going in the right direction. It has given me access to multiple professionals across the globe, in India and other parts of the world.
“My organisation trusts ChPPs to lead projects and high-performing teams. I’m now leading a bigger team and a larger portfolio. Clients also like to have chartered professionals handling their projects. ChPP gives them that confidence.”
Stuart Oliver, Executive Director at WSP India, said: “If I’m looking for someone to manage my project, I want to go to the professional who’s an expert. ChPP status is what I’d be looking for as a client to give me the confidence that this person is the right person to manage my project.
“Other qualifications are academic – they’re courses that people can attend. But the ChPP standard, due to the way that’s governed, is what I would be looking for to give me the confidence that someone has the right credibility. And it’s globally recognised.”
