Chartered via Pathway 3 is for project professionals who meet the eligibility criteria and have a recognised assessment for technical knowledge.
What is the eligibility criteria?
To apply for chartered status via Pathway 3, individuals must:
- have a recognised assessment for technical knowledge
- be professionally active
- have proven experience in delivering projects, programmes, portfolios, or key control/enabling functions
- have up-to-date knowledge of current practices and methods
- have active involvement in the project management profession
If the evidence provided is more than five years old, a currency statement is required to demonstrate how you continue to meet the above criteria.

How to apply via Pathway 3
When you have a recognised assessment that demonstrates your professional practice, you can apply through Pathway 3. You will follow a two-stage process: a written submission, followed by an interview.
Stage 1 - Written submission
- Evidence of achieving a recognised assessment.
- Overviews of between one and four projects, programmes or portfolios to provide context for further evidence.
Written statements covering professional practice in the required competences.
Confirmation of CPD undertaken as required by APM’s scheme during the past 12 months.
Details of two proposers.
Agreement to commit to and comply with the APM Code of Professional Conduct.
Stage 2 - Interview
If your written submission is successful, you’ll be invited to a one hour interview covering:
- Assessment of technical knowledge across the competences, based on the contextual
evidence supplied in your written submission. - Ethics, compliance, and professionalism.
