Chartered via Pathway 4 is for project professionals who meet the eligibility criteria and have a recognised assessment for both professional practice and technical knowledge.


What is the eligibility criteria?

To apply for chartered status via Pathway 4, individuals must:

  • have a recognised assessment for both professional practice and technical knowledge
  • have proven experience in delivering projects, programmes, portfolios, or key control/enabling functions.
  • have up-to-date knowledge of current practices and methods.
  • have active involvement in the project management profession.

If the evidence provided is more than five years old, a currency statement is required to demonstrate how you continue to meet the above criteria.

How to apply via Pathway 4

When you have a recognised assessment that demonstrates your professional practice and technical knowledge, you can apply through Pathway 4. You will follow a two-stage process: a written submission, followed by an interview.

Stage 1 - Written submission

  • Evidence of achieving a recognised assessment.
  • Details of CPD undertaken as required by APM’s scheme during the past 12 months.
  • Details of two proposers.
  • Agreement to commit to and comply with the APM Code of Professional Conduct.

Stage 2 - Interview

If your written submission is successful, you’ll be invited to a half hour interview covering:

  • Exploration of your CPD.
  • Questions on current practice relating to the mandatory competences.
  • Ethics, compliance, and professionalism.
