The APM Wessex branch represents and supports local APM members and is supporting the development of the profession amongst students by holding a Student of the year competition, open to Higher Education Institutions (HEI’s) in the Wessex branch region.

This is being implemented this year as an alternative competition to the usual Project challenge event following the unfortunate cancellation of this year’s event.

A HEI can make submissions for each course/module that they run. Any individual student’s work will be considered as long as it was undertaken by a student between 1 September 2017 and the closing date for submission.

Submissions should be sponsored by an academic at the associated HEI using the submission sheet available here. There is no limit on the number of entries from each HEI, although each entry must be submitted on a separate form. The Wessex branch committee will consider and judge applications in February 2019. Judging criteria will include:

  • Reference to APM Body of Knowledge and Competencies
  • Applicability or benefit to business/industry
  • Lessons learned for future projects
  • Innovations or overcoming challenges during project delivery

Finalists will give a presentation of their work at a presentation evening in March 2019, alongside the finalists of the APM Wessex branch young project manager of the year award 2019. Marks from the presentation will be added to the marks already awarded for the written submission to provide an overall winner who will be announced at the end of the evening. In addition to the prestige that comes with winning the award, the winner will receive a trophy, £150 of Amazon vouchers and a range of APM merchandise. All finalists will receive a certificate recognising their achievement.

The deadline has been extend to 1 February 2019.
