Project Management following the Grenfell Inquiry Ph 2
APM hybrid event hosted by the Greater Bay Area Network, co-hosted by the Department of Real Estate and Construction (DREC) at HKU on 20 May 2026.
The Grenfell Tower Inquiry Phase 2 Report offers a sobering reminder of the responsibilities project professionals carry – and the consequences when systems fail.
The Phase 2 Report, published on 4 September 2024, provides an unparalleled insight into how a modern construction project can unravel. It traces the origins, development and ultimate failure of the refurbishment of Grenfell Tower, revealing how decisions made during procurement, design development and construction contributed to the tragedy of the 2017 fire.
For project professionals, the message is clear. Even in the face of imperfect guidance, the Inquiry’s findings underline the need for rigour, curiosity and moral courage. When we challenge assumptions, test processes and stay alert to unintended consequences, we strengthen the safety and trust that sit at the heart of responsible practice. The Grenfell Tower Inquiry Phase 2 Report, released on 4 September 2024, provides an unparalleled insight into the genesis, development and ultimately the failure of a modern construction project.
Seventy-two people lost their lives in the Grenfell Tower fire in 2017. Beyond the tragic loss of life, the aftermath of Grenfell is still being felt around the world. Reconstruction programmes have escalated to unprecedented levels, with the UK alone facing estimated costs of £16bn. For today’s project professionals, these findings reinforce the need for rigour, curiosity and the courage to question what may at first appear routine.
