Association for Project Management (APM) has appointed new Leads and Deputy Leads for its Regional Networks. Selected following a thorough recruitment process, these new appointees will help shape local activity and strengthen connections across the APM community. We’ve been introducing each of the new Leads and Deputy Leads in a series of articles: catch up with part one and part two. In this third part, we will introduce the Leads and Deputy Leads for our Regional Networks in the Northern Ireland, North West, Republic of Ireland and Scotland.

Northern Ireland

Lead - Martin Elsner

What do you want people to gain from being part of this Network?

I want participants to gain valuable insights into project management best practices and enhance their skills. The Network will provide opportunities for learning, sharing experiences, and staying updated on industry trends, helping individuals grow both personally and professionally in the field of project management.

Deputy - Gerry Coghlan

What would you say is this Regional Network’s greatest strength?

The Network’s greatest strength is the people involved within the Network with a willingness to participate in events and activities, to promote the profession and to engage with like minded colleagues.

Is there a leadership philosophy, ethos or motto that you will use in this role?

Project Management is all about the people involved and bringing them with you on a journey to achieve a successful outcome to your project.

North West

Lead - Liz Bohler

What would you say is this Regional Network’s greatest strength?

Outside of London, no other UK region is growing like the North West. Project Management is at the heart of this growth, the region is full of exciting transformations benefiting our people. Our Network will be here to support these regional ambitions, working with the people delivering the change, as well as the organisations funding it.

Deputy – Caroline Patterson

How do you plan to encourage participation and collaboration within the Network?

By making it easy and appealing for people to get involved. More events in Cumbria, more opportunities to promote local projects, and plenty of open, informal spaces for conversation. The more relaxed and accessible things feel, the more people show up and join in.

Republic of Ireland

Lead - Anthony McCarthy

Deputy - Donald McKay

What do you think is the most pressing issue affecting the project profession in your region at the moment and why?

Ireland in 2026 is moving from planning to executing large infrastructure projects which changes focus from planning into high quality execution. Knowing what good looks like and being able to deliver that will be a key aim for the region in the short term.

What are you most looking forward to working on with the Network?

I am keen to ensure that the number of registered ChPP's in the region increases through signposting or assisting with coaching.

Scotland

Lead - Jacky Knickelbein

What impact would you like this Network to have within your region?

We are a dedicated partner in Scotland’s success, by upholding high standards in project execution —from Government policy to private sector delivery. We help secure better public outcomes, foster economic growth and ensure that our members are equipped to deliver positive change.

Deputy - Alan Glennie

How do you plan to encourage participation and collaboration within the Network?

People volunteer for a reason. If you can understand these reasons and provide opportunities to satisfy them that align with the network aims and objectives, then the engagement, participation and collaboration will flourish.

We’ll continue to spotlight more of our newly appointed Regional Network Leads and Deputy Leads and the priorities they’ll be focusing on in their regions. If you want to learn more about APM Regional Networks, click here.
